Regarding EVite
Dear fellow net citizens. You may not have figured this out yet, but evite sucks. There are other options, socializr, for example. However, if you don't choose to see the suckiness of evite, I ask of you one thing. Please repeat the details of your event (time, date, address) in the description of the event so that it goes out in the email. Those of us using mobile messaging services will be ever more convenienced for not having to follow three more steps to find this essential information that the idiots, er, developers at evite don't think is important.

Is that the only way in which evite sucks? Because I know I'd be violating the spirit of your tech ethics if I didn't make up my own mind on the topic, and the inconvenience to mobile users you point out hasn't yet convinced me. ;-)

You just refuse to get it! Evite makes their money off of advertising, which means that they have to clear inventory of ads through page views. And how do you drive up your page views and clear ad inventory? Make the users go to the site to find out the details!

Why do you think we separate lists of videos into only 10-20 per page on MTVN sites? To get the page views and reduce ad inventory of course!

Oh, I know why they do it, but the fact that they have a reason, don't make it a good practice.

I get several emails from them regarding any one event, not one of those emails contains relevant information. Without that information, the emails fall lower on the Signal to Noise ratio.

You still have to go to their pages to reply to party invites and get maps, etc. Such fundamental should be in the email to show that usability matters more than ad revenue.

Still, this post was about people who insist on using the service bridging the more annoying gap left, less than about the annoying gap itself.

Come to the ad revenue and it will show you the TRUE nature of the force! *chuckle*

I have to get on the band wagon here. I can't stand Evite. I think the interface is...dare I say it... clunky like Windoze.

Let's hope that Google does something similar. Google...drool...

By the way, Grand Central services from Google rock. It has nothing to do with the fact I'm a phone geek. Nothing at all... :-)
